Now that I've completed the thing for work...
...I can spend more time blogging about extracurricular activities. The photos that I added to this entry are items that I bought at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. This was my 2nd time attending with the "Other Alice" and her husband, Russ.
The dog picture to the right I scanned from an antique print that I purchased. I bought several, all of which were guaranteed by the seller to be over 100 years old. The one shown above, I presented the actual print as a gift to the Bishops who are always so kind to allow me to visit them and their wonderful dogs.
The other story has a much longer story attached. Plus, it involves a prank that I played on friends from work. The picture was taken in my backyard of two stuffed alpacas. These were also purchased at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival as gifts for Christina and Sabrina. Christina and Sabrina, upon learning of my plans to attend the festival set about harrassing me at every opportunity about my need to add some alpacas to the managerie in my yard. I bought the stuffed alpacas in Maryland, photographed them, told the two women that I bought alpacas and named them after the two young women. I then emailed the pictured to them and gave them the stuffed animals. The black one is "Sabrina" because it's human counterpart has dark hair. Christina is a redhead. Hence, the orange and white alpaca is named for her. Finally I was able to get even with my two young childrens' librarian friends for all the times they try to scare me and trick me.
Last Friday night I went to a Lakewood Blueclaws (minor league-AA baseball) game with a bunch of my co-workers. I was busy talking so I didn't pay much attention to the game. What did catch my attention were some of the weird publicity stunts between innings. There was a race between 3 people wearing eyeball costumes. That was sponsored by a local eyecare company. However, the other race between a wedge of cheese, a cracker and a pork roll made me feel like I walked into a Salvadore Dali painting as it made no sense to me. I wish I had taken some pictures. Angela Z. did take some nice ones of the fire works. I will add a couple of them here if I can recall where she stored them online. She offered to let people use them at will.
The other fun thing that I did recently was to hang out with Barbara and Tom Bishop. I went to their house with Alice, then last Saturday and Sunday I met up with them at the dog shows in Freehold. Pictures from these dates are in my "Rufus" photo album. It felt like a family reunion because at least two generations of Rufus's puppies were represented.
Now my vacation has been unintentionally extended for a few days while I recover from shingles! As I always tell people, I do not celebrate my birthday in a big way because my birthday is often a day of bad luck. On past birthdays, I've received traffic tickets, gone to court, and had relationships end. This year I came down with shingles! Ugh! I didn't even realize that I had ever contracted chickenpox which is a childhood prerequisite to this adult malady. Also, I thought that only older people get this disease. So, if you need a roof, I have the shingles! (One of the symptoms is that it makes you start telling stupid jokes....What, I do that all the time???)
