Web 2.0 Challenge: Thing 23: Wrapping Up
Along with the Diversity Retreat this was one of the best trainings that I have participated in during my ten years (almost) of employment with Ocean County Library system! I hope that the Web 2.0 Challenge will be repeated again and again so that others will have the opportunity to learn from it as much as I did! Before the challenge began I was already proficient with taking and editing digital photos, using a scanner and emailing and uploading photo and graphical files. I also had begun blogging and dabbling in website design right before the Challenge begun. I was somewhat comfortable using YouTube and Picassa. I understood how social networking sites function and appreciate their benefits although I usually refrain from becoming involved with them. WorldCat is something I've been using almost every day because Manchester Branch does a zillion Inter Library Loans. I've been setting up accounts for customers on NetLibrary since we started offering the service and had played around with Listen NJ. However, this is the first time that I've actually used either of these two to access literature. Del.iscio.us, Technorati, Library Thing, podcasts, wikis (except for reading stuff in Wikipedia), web apps and feeds are mostly new to me. Already I have added much of what was presented to my arsenol of reference tools for work and personal use. The only service that I do not like is Flickr. After I receive my MP3 player, this is one account I will be deleting. Ironically, my favorite online task is editing and working with photos and graphics. I would like, in the future to become more involved with posting videos to YouTube and creating my own podcasts. Why not present an advanced challenge that includes these topics plus working directly with code? As a result of the Web 2.0 Challenge, I am motivated to learn more about Web 2.0 and IT Technology as a possible career direction.
