Web 2.0 Challenge: Thing 22: Listen NJ
When OCL first made Listen NJ available to its customers a couple of years ago, I made a preliminary investigation of this resource. However, back then I didn't progress any further because I couldn't find a single item checked in without a waiting list that I felt comfortable listening to at my computer (or on an MP3 player that I was willing to buy if I found enough books online to listen to while exercising or doing housework). For this assignment was the first time that I revisited Listen NJ. I did find a few items that I want to listen to when I receive my MP3 player for completing all 23 things. For now, I downloaded Kabbalah Works by David Aaron and Life Laundry How to De-Junk Your Life by Dawna Walters. Hopefully I will be able to transfer them to an MP3 player before they become "due." I still don't feel comfortable sitting in front of a computer listening to a book for fun or self improvement....Reminds me too much of work....As for downloading the software, that was a pain in the butt! Once again, I admit that I'm not the most thorough reader of directions but....I kept finding myself in a proverbial "Catch 22" situation. First I had to download OverDrive Media Console. Next, I was told that I had to update my Windows Media Player before I could download the file. So I updated my Windows Media Player and once again was informed that my computer "wasn't licensed" for this file. I was instructed to further update Windows Media Player. I'm not sure exactly what was going on but I finally ended up with Windows Media Player 11.0 and my two books in listenable order on the desktop of my desktop PC at home. I will use Listen NJ again but will selectively recommend it to others who are undaunted by software wild goose chases!
